Fellowships

Creating free work space ...

... is the central idea of the Historisches Kolleg. Since 1980 it has offered excellent scholars the freedom to spend a whole year researching, thinking and writing in order to complete a major work (starting in October and ending  the following September) . Under ideal conditions, the scholarship recipients can concentrate on their work, free from obligations at their universities. Munich is an outstanding scientific location with excellent libraries, research institutions and archives within short distance to the Kaulbach-Villa, which is a quiet place central between the Bavarian State Library and the English Garden.

Currently, you can apply for a scholarship at the Historisches Kolleg in the college year 2024/2025.

Advanced Fellowships

In each Kolleg year, Advanced Fellowships are awarded to established scholars of all historically oriented disciplines who are employed at universities or non-university research institutions and who have demonstrated outstanding research achievements.

Consolidator Fellowships

The Consolidator Fellowships are aimed at postdoctoral students of all historically oriented subjects working towards completing a Habiliationsschrift or a second book.

Honorary Fellowships

Since 2009, the Honorary Fellowship has enabled outstanding scholars to live and work at the Historisches Kolleg for a shorter period of time (maximum six months).
