Living and Working
The Historisches Kolleg offers fellows the opportunity to work, think, and write in a peaceful environment, free from other obligations. Bright and spacious offices are available to all fellows. Some fellows also have the option of living in the Kaulbachvilla. The staff at the Historisches Kolleg will also assist you in finding suitable accommodation.
The scholarships are primarily intended to help you complete your book project. The atmosphere at the Historisches Kolleg is therefore conducive to quiet and freedom. As a fellow, you will give a public evening lecture during the academic year; as an advanced fellow, you will also organize an academic colloquium at the Kaulbachvilla. If you are also interested in academic exchange, the Historisches Kolleg offers numerous voluntary opportunities: networking meetings with partner organizations, a fellow lounge for exchange with other fellows, workspaces in the library, a varied program of events in the building itself, joint excursions, and other offerings.
As an Advanced Fellow, you will hold a colloquium during your one-year fellowship. The contributions of the participants will be compiled into a conference proceedings volume, which will be published in the Historisches Kolleg series. The staff will assist you in planning, organizing, and conducting the event and will accompany the publication through to print.
The Historische Kolleg offers a family-friendly environment. We are happy to assist you with any questions you may have about organizing childcare, schools (in Bavaria, the Sprengel principle applies!), and the possibility of bringing children to the Kaulbachvilla. It is also possible to reserve a place in a daycare center within walking distance. Please feel free to contact us with any individual questions: fellowships@historischeskolleg.de.
