Fehrenbach ist am 8. Juli 2025 in K\u00f6ln verstorben. An der Universit\u00e4t zu K\u00f6ln wurde sie 1967 von Theodor Schieder promoviert. 1973 erfolgte ihre Habilitation in Gie\u00dfen, wo sie bis 1979 als Professorin f\u00fcr Neuere und Neueste Geschichte lehrte. Bis zu ihrer Emeritierung im Jahr 2003 war sie Ordinaria f\u00fcr Neuere Geschichte an der Universit\u00e4t des Saarlandes in Saarbr\u00fccken. Im Kollegjahr 1991\/92 erhielt sie ein Forschungsstipendium des Historischen Kollegs. Aus diesem Forschungsjahr sind das Buch \u201eAdel und B\u00fcrgertum im deutschen Vorm\u00e4rz, M\u00fcnchen 1994\u201c und der Kolloquiumsband \u201eAdel und B\u00fcrgertum in Deutschland 1770\u20131848, M\u00fcnchen 1994\u201c hervorgegangen. Die Historikerin besch\u00e4ftigte sich in ihren Forschungen ausgiebig mit dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert und profilierte sich als ausgewiesene Kennerin der Verfassungsgeschichte und Nationenbildung.<\/p><p>Das Historische Kolleg trauert um Elisabeth Fehrenbach und wird ihr ein ehrendes
