The Historisches Kolleg, an Institute for Advanced Study of the historically oriented disciplines, has added another option to its range of scholarships. Twice a year, outstanding scholars can apply to live and conduct research at the Historisches Kolleg in the immediate vicinity of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek for shorter periods of time (maximum six months).
This gives former fellows and scholars from Germany and abroad, who have already retired from university service or who are active university teachers interested in spending their sabbatical in a different country, the opportunity to use the inspiring atmosphere of the artists’ villa (built by Gabriel von Seidl in the heart of Munich) to complete a major scientific project.
The Honorary Fellow is a guest of the Historisches Kolleg and can live and work in the Kaulbach-Villa. The technical and personnel infrastructure of the house is at her or his disposal for scientific work. No remuneration is granted. It is expected that the fellowship recipient will present the topic to an academic audience in a lecture (or possibly in another form of talk/discussion) during their stay at the Kolleg. The fellow will be integrated into the life of the Kolleg (colloquia, etc.) and will benefit from the wide range of services offered by Munich as a scientific location.
The selection of fellows is decided by the Board of Trustees at its regular meetings in early July and early November each year. Informal applications (project outline of 5 pages maximum) should be sent to the managing director of the Historisches Kolleg, stating the desired scholarship start date and period.
